The result of the 2015 World Machine Tool Survey are in. The most significant result is also the most unsurprising: “High productivity is at the heart of a healthy manufacturing economy,” Modern Machine Shop reports. While not exactly news, the survey confirms what most already knew; that is, doing whatever you can to increase productivity is a must. Thankfully, the survey results also shed light on how to do just that. Here are a few highlights from the report:
Skilled Laborers Are A Valuable Investment
Modern Machine Shop puts it plainly: “Higher-skilled labor is necessary to make the most of more efficient machine tools and vice versa.” Contrary to popular belief, machine tools and the related equipment can be vastly complicated. The large fixtures, including Sumner lifts, welding equipment, and lathes, can malfunction — or even create a hazard — if manned improperly. For example, many machine tool builders craft machines capable of honing and precisely shaping strong and rigid metal. Machine tooling and machining techniques typically entail processes such as boring, threading, facing, and turning — all parts of manufacturing that can go very wrong if the slightest detail is out of place. As such, hiring employees that are skilled (and when applicable certified) in their area of expertise is essential.
Efficient Tools Are Mandatory
Highly skilled workers — on their own — are not enough. The survey results also highlight the importance of efficient machine tools. That means the best models and machine tools that are inspected and maintained regularly. It is also important to work with repair services, such as machine tool and Sumner lift repair services, that do high quality work in a relatively short time.
The 2015 World Machine Tool Survey confirms what we already know: productivity is key — and the basic tools for achieving optimal productivity are highly skilled workers, efficient machines, and quality machine tool repair (including Sumner lift repair).
